Town Dock begins to be created.
1641
(ca.) The town grants the area at the head of the Town Cove (also called Bendall’s Cove) to a group that subsequently build wharves and warehouses along the sides of the dock. (Until the 20th century, “dock” meant an enclosed basin or slip between wharves, not a structure to which a vessel is moored.) The Town Dock becomes the town center until the completion of Long Wharf in 1715.*
